Right around Christmas, I happened upon a tweet in my Twitter feed that read:
SoMDBeekeeper Podcast Episode 23 – The Practical Beekeeper goo.gl/fb/qL3Yu
I must admit that I yawned. When I first started beekeeping in 2008, I checked iTunes for educational beekeeping podcasts. I was disappointed both because there were so few on offer and because those that did exist had a tendency to fizzle to nothingness after a few episodes. I wrote off podcasts for beekeepers.
But years had passed, and after reading that tweet I decided to download three episodes just to check it out. I was glad that I’d committed to listening to all three, because the host, Craig, struggled with sound issues for the first couple of podcasts. But man, did he start to hit his stride when he interviewed author Ross Conrad of Natural Beekeeping (which was one of the first beekeeping books I read). This episode was good! I then had to download every podcast and I ended up listening to all of them within a two week period.
Craig features some other knowledgeable, funny, and educated guests on his podcast, including Phil Chandler, The Barefoot Beekeeper; John Seaborn of Wolfcreek Apiaries; Kirk Anderson of Backwards Beekeeping; and, on the latest episode, Michael Bush.
Craig is a natural interviewer. I’m sure he has preset questions, but he does very well in following the interviewee and asking questions that you and I, as beekeepers, might want to ask. Unfortunately, the podcasts are not regularly scheduled, but I believe they are worth the wait. It is clear that Craig takes a lot of time to prepare for the interview and research his interviewee, which makes the podcasts all the more interesting. So, my only complaint…MORE PODCASTS PLEASE!!!
Please check out his website at somdbeekeeper.com and tell him I sent you.
